SPECIAL ASSETS JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY

The position of Special Assets Manager provides loan workout and collection leadership across all business lending lines. The primary objective is loss mitigation through active credit collection activity, appropriate workout strategy and resolution. In addition, the position provides leadership and support to other Officers and team members involved in collection activities. The Special Assets Manager is also responsible for management of the Bank’s Other Real Estate Owned properties. Works with Special Assets to ensure payments and loans to ensure compliance with all Bank policies and procedures, as well as, all applicable state and federal banking regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  1. Responsible for active management of criticized, classified or delinquent credits.
  1. Capable of applying credit officer, asset management and risk management principals.
  1. Manage portfolio of collateralized assets.
  1. Evaluate financial information, collateral, legal documents and available information to project probable exposure to loss and recommended workout strategy.
  1. Often serve as primary contact with in-house and outside counsel in workout and collection case management. Experience and knowledge around legal documents, loan covenants and loan agreements.
  1. Calls on delinquent loan customers to get payments or set up an updated payment plan.
  1. Lead collection efforts and coach collection team and loan officers on collection activities.
  1. Provide Executive and Board level reporting on Special Assets portfolio.
  1. Manage Bank’s Other Real Estate Loan Portfolio of properties.
  1. Composes, prepares and issues correspondence such as internal memorandums and letters to customers or contractors.
  1. Provides effective customer service and assists in resolving problems within given authority.

SECONDARY DUTIES

The position of Special Assets performs duties specific to the position and other functions as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

The position of Specialist Assets is responsible for the supervision of Collections.


ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

The incumbent is in a non-confined office-type setting in which he or she is free to move about at will. The position includes driving a Bank or personal owned vehicle approximately 0-5% of the time which includes exposure to the outside weather elements and moving mechanical parts. It may include some minor annoyances such as noise, odors, drafts, etc.

The incumbent in the course of performing this position spends time writing, typing, speaking, listening, lifting (up to 15 pounds), seeing (such as close, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and adjusted focus), sitting (90% of the time), pulling, walking, standing, squatting, kneeling and reaching.

The incumbent for this position may operate any or all of the following: telephone, cellular telephone, copy and/or fax machines, adding machine (calculator), check protector, scanner and image systems, scanning equipment, encoder, money counter, credit card terminal, typewriter, computer terminal, laptop computer, personal computer and related printers, or other equipment as directed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from a 4-Year college or technical school; or 5 year of related experience and/or training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of related state and federal banking compliance regulations, and other Bank operational policies.
  • Intermediate skills in computer terminal and personal computer operation; mainframe computer system; and word processing, spreadsheet and graphical software programs.
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions, interpret documents, understand procedures, write reports and correspondence, and speak clearly to customers and employees.
  • Ability to deal with difficult problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision while performing duties.
  • Current driver’s license and a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage if required to drive in the course of performing assigned duties and responsibilities.
