The Horse Unit Manager for Animal and Food Sciences in the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment position is located at Maine Chance Farm, Lexington, KY. The position has responsibility for the daily management of the horses and facilities at the Horse Unit.

Responsibilities include:

• the overall health care of all animals
• decisions related to dietary management of horses
• making decisions and implementing the breeding program and oversees foaling and neonatal foal care
• maintaining animals as described in experimental protocols
• providing guidance on animal care, handling, and data collection to graduate students, laboratory technicians and faculty as needed to facilitate the successful completion of research projects
• delivering lectures and teaching lab sections related to horse handling and horse management in several animal science and equine science courses
• developing and delivering educational seminars for extension clientele during field days and short courses
• supervising and coordinating work schedules of two full-time employees and 6-10 student employees to provide animal care, facility maintenance and completion of research and educational activities
• hiring and training new employees
• maintaining records on animals and equipment
• procuring supplies and services
• will function as unit point of contact

This position will require evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary for animal care and research projects. Other duties as assigned.
