Scientist III
University of Kentucky
As the Scientist on this project, you will be overseeing and coordinating a 3 year project evaluating RNAi technology targeting emerald ash borer under field conditions. We will evaluate field applications of dsRNA targeting EAB in ash trees planted in a common garden and assess a) optimal dosage, b) application timing, c) spatial distribution, d) retention, e) compatibility with classical biological control agents, and f) effects on pollinators and ash associates. Additionally, you will oversee a proof of concept experiment demonstrating RNAi machinery in hemlock and/or balsam woolly adelgids. For this you will a) assess the presence of cellular RNAi machinery in adelgids, and b) evaluate our ability to manipulate it for forest pest suppression.
