Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences / 4-H Youth Development in McCreary County.

Location: Whitley City, Kentucky.

The Extension Agent for Family & Consumer Sciences / 4-H Youth Development will provide leadership and management to the overall FCS and 4-H Youth Development program for McCreary County. The agent will develop and implement a plan of work based on locally identified needs which will lead to improved quality of living for families, youth & individuals.

The person in this positions will:

  • plan and implement educational programs which focus on:

    • making healthy choices
    • nurturing families
    • embracing life as you age
    • securing financial stability
    • promoting healthy homes and communities
    • accessing nutritious food
    • empowering community leaders
  • develop expertise and serve as a resource in family and consumer sciences programming areas, including:
    • food and nutrition
    • family resource management
    • human development and family relations
    • health, safety and wellness
    • leadership development
    • clothing and textiles
    • housing and the environment
    • home based and micro business
  • develop and implement leadership programs such as Kentucky Extension Homemakers and 4-H Leaders.
  • work jointly with the other agent to implement a well-rounded 4-H program that develops youth through school and community-based programs
  • utilize and/or develop councils, advisory groups, and committees in programming
  • facilitate community programming around issues involving leadership development, community involvement, local government, community services and other forms of community economic development

All agents in a county will support the dissemination of useful and practical information on subjects relating to Agriculture, Family Consumer Sciences, 4-H and Community and Rural Development as outlined in the KRS statues 164.605 to 164.675.

State law requires a national and state criminal background check and a letter from the Cabinet for Health and Family Services stating the employee is clear to hire based on no findings of substantiated child abuse or neglect found through a background check of child abuse and neglect records as a condition of employment or involvement in this program.
