Position Summary
The Senior Project Manager, Federal Programs is a newly created, full-time role reporting to the Vice President of Federal Programs. This is a term-limited position expected to last up to 12 months. The Senior Project Manager will develop and optimize systems and processes that support the effective management of federally funded programs. This position serves as a strategic partner to federal program leadership and will translate high-level priorities into clear, actionable workflows, ensuring that documentation, timelines, and internal protocols are accurate and well-managed. The position leads and operates with the goal that All Rural Students Succeed.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities

- Apply working knowledge of federal programs to support compliance, reporting, and risk mitigation efforts
- Track, organize, and maintain program documentation in accordance with federal guidelines and PRI’s internal policies to ensure audit readiness
- Collaborate with program and organizational leadership to review and enhance processes, workflows, and protocols for accuracy, efficiency, and compliance
- Monitor project timelines and key deliverables, providing regular progress updates and proactively addressing delays or roadblocks
- Manage daily operations and adapt to shifting priorities across the federal program portfolio, ensuring alignment with strategic goals
- Supervise and support assigned staff member(s), providing
regular guidance, performance feedback, and professional development to ensure alignment with project goals and organizational standards
- Other roles/duties will be assigned as necessary to assist and support in the attainment of our mission, All Rural Students Succeed
Position Location & Schedule
The position will be considered for remote work in Kentucky with local, state, and sometimes national travel required
Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET with in-office, hybrid and/or remote work a possibility. Because of the nature of the responsibility to schools, partners, funders, and to the service region, individual offices or departments may have operating hours that extend beyond this period and may include evening and/or weekend hours.
Minimum Qualifications
Education required to ensure success in this position:
- Bachelor’s degree in
related field.
Experience required to ensure success in this position:
- Five years of experience supporting federal grant programs
- Demonstrated success in managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects
- People management experience preferred
- Proficiency in project management and collaboration tools including Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, Microsoft Teams
- Strong analytical, organizational, and written communication skills, with the ability to produce executive-level summaries, reports, and documentation
Special skills, knowledge and abilities:
- Knowledge of Results Based Accountability
- Demonstrated analytical skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, compliance-driven environment
- Experience in implementing, monitoring, and evaluating federal or state grants
- A commitment to students from diverse economic, social
and cultural backgrounds
License, certification, or registration necessary:
- Valid driver’s license
- Successfully complete pre-employment background check
Physical requirements:
- Ability to work in a high-energy office
- Ability to accurately communicate and exchange information with partners, stakeholders, and/or meeting participants
- Ability to operate standard office equipment and computer software programs
- Ability to operate motor vehicle
- Ability to travel independently by car and plane to eastern Kentucky, statewide sites,
and nationally
Environmental conditions:
- Work in a fast-paced setting with frequent interruptions and shifting priorities
- Periodic travel to meetings and events
