Position details
Job Summary | The geology program in ENSI is seeking a GSA to generate first order curatorial data for geology specimen collections, identify physical storage and organization needs to appropriately archive specimens, and pack said samples in appropriately labeled containers. Minor workspace cleaning will be required. The student must be a Sophomore or Junior in Geology and have completed ESS 108 and ESS 201, as well as two advanced courses from the following list: ESS 276, ESS 315, ESS 362, ESS 363, ESS 379, or ESS 381. |

Essential Duties and Responsibilities | Duties and responsibilities may involve performing analytical tasks and/or developing comprehensive reports. The advanced student assistant may conduct a significant amount of office or field research, aid in the analysis of research and editing or writing reports. This position may oversee special projects and initiatives. The position may also be used as an entry level student supervisor classification. This position will require a high level of contact with internal and external customers. A substantial level of teamwork is expected. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor. |

Minimum Requirements | · Must be a current MSU student · Must maintain satisfactory academic progress · Must have or be able to successfully complete a significant amount training/certification · Must have a high level of technology skills · Must have a high level of knowledge of the operations and policies of the unit or department · For positions that supervise, must have the ability to lead and direct others · Must possess independent judgment, discretion and decision-making skills · Must have a proven track record of meeting deadlines and working under pressure · Must be able to handle stress as well as to react quickly in emergency situations |
Additional Desirable Qualifications | The GSA must be able to work efficiently with minimal supervision, work well as part of a team of students, and be familiar with spreadsheets. |
Physical Requirements | Must be able to lift 50 pounds. |
Working Conditions | Minimal or intermittent supervision is provided. |
