Advertisement Wording | Counseling & Health Services at Morehead State University is accepting applications for a full-time position as a Mental Health Counselor. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2025. Morehead State University is located in Morehead, KY, a designated Kentucky Trail Town, nestled in the Daniel Boone National Forest, in close proximity to Cave Run Lake. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Mental Health Counselor provides individual, group, and family therapy, case management services, referral, and follow-ups to acute, chronic, or moderately disturbed mentally ill clients and/or patients, and consultation with outside facilities and/or agencies. Administers and coordinates specified mental health and/or substance abuse therapy programs. REQUIREMENTS: A PhD, Psy.D, or master’s degree in psychology, counseling, or social work, with a minimum of three years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Must be independently licensed in the state of Kentucky as a licensed psychologist, licensed clinical social worker, licensed professional clinical counselor, or licensed psychological practitioner or obtain said independent licensure within two years of hire date. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Proficiency with computers and word processing software. Ability to work both independently and cooperatively as a member of a professional team within the administrative structure of the Division of Student Success. Knowledge of the link between own job responsibilities and the overall goals and needs of Morehead State University with broader goals in mind. Ability to maintain stable performance and emotional control when faced with opposition, pressure, or hostility from others and/or stressful conditions. The ability to adapt easily to change, sees the value of differing positions, and adapts own positions and strategies in response to new information or changes in a situation. Ability to communicate in a positive, compassionate and professional manner with patients, staff and visitors. Demonstrates a willingness to assume additional responsibilities. Ability to deliver quality service in a professional, compassionate manner with respect for the dignity of all. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working with college-age students coming from culturally diverse backgrounds. Experience in grant research and writing. Licensure as Clinical and Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC) is preferred or willingness to obtain aforementioned certificate within a two-year period of hire. Experience with psychological testing. Organizational Relationships | Reports directly to the Director of Counseling and Health Services, within the Division of Student Success. Works closely with the Dean of Students, the Police Department, University faculty and staff. Interacts with students and parents. Expected to have contact and a good working relationship with the local mental health community including Pathways, Inc. and St. Claire Medical Center. |

Working Conditions | Regular office hours with evening and weekend hours as needed to implement programs, respond to student needs and duties associated with crisis on-call schedule. This position may experience periods of high stress at various times due to client volume and job deadlines. |
