The department of Financial Aid at Morehead State University is accepting applications for a full-time position as an Assistant Director, Financial Aid. The anticipated start date is October 16, 2024.

Morehead State University is located in Morehead, KY, a designated Kentucky Trail Town, nestled in the Daniel Boone National Forest, in close proximity to Cave Run Lake. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Assistant Director, Financial Aid supervises and coordinates the counseling and delivery of programs for the Office of Financial Aid. This position must ensure compliance with university policy and be able to effectively communicate and counsel enrolled and prospective students and their families, as well as other university offices. This position is responsible for maintaining compliance with state, federal and university regulations. The Assistant Director provides analytical support to the Director of Financial Aid. The objective of this position is to ensure efficient delivery of financial aid to students while supporting the University in the endeavor to attract and retain qualified students through timely and effective distribution of financial aid.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree with 2 years of financial aid experience. Must possess strong analytical and communication skills and have experience counseling students, parents, and other individuals. Must also have strong interpersonal and supervisory skills. Experience and technical expertise with mainframe and microcomputers. Ability to work autonomously with little supervision. Must have knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance issues concerning the administration of intercollegiate athletics. Must have knowledge of and the ability to maintain the rules of the NCAA in all aspects of this position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree and/or professional certification in an appropriate discipline. Experience with admissions, financial aid and/or accounting. A significant degree of tact and diplomacy is required to coordinate the duties and responsibilities with the overlapping of operational and administrative lines. Ability to prioritize while handling multiple issues.

Organizational Relationships
The Assistant Director reports directly to the Director of Financial Aid & Scholarships. The position directly supervises the Financial Aid Counselors and Financial Aid Counselor/Analyst. Communication with various other university personnel, both in the academic and administrative areas is frequent. Relationships with the Office of Accounting and Financial Services, Enrollment Services, Scholarship Office, Office of Information Technology, Athletics and Academic Affairs is necessary. This position also interacts with students, parents, high school officials, and state agencies on a daily basis.

Working Conditions
The Assistant Director works with a minimum level of supervision. The position will often involve a highly stressful environment. The person holding this position must become familiar with all aspects of the campus community and must have the ability to make independent decisions but know when supervisory assistance is required. The Assistant Director must maintain an open line of communication with all upper level administrators of the University. The effects of errors in judgment can be detrimental to students, and the University, especially in the area of student recruitment and retention.
