Job Summary
The Student Manager works in a team environment with the Student Concierge, AV Tech, and Event Coordinators to provide support campus-wide for events. Student Managers will work in ADUC (M-F 4:00pm-10:00pm, Saturdays 8:00am-8:00pm, Sundays 4:00pm-10:00pm). Student Managers are an extension of MSU staff. Student Managers will welcome and direct guest of the University Center and will support the Student Concierge. Student Managers will maintain the integrity of the University Center and are responsible for unlocking/locking meeting rooms and providing needed media for each meeting along with room set-ups of furniture.
The Student Manager reports directly to the Special Events Planning Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Expected to answer the main University Center phone line(s) and to provide directions and assistance to the meeting spaces.
  • Expected to direct and assist faculty, staff, students, and community guests with room reservations and requests. Must be courteous and respectable at all times.
  • Expected to operate a variety of audio-visual components, including but not limited to analog, computer base and portable equipment.
  • Able to check out equipment to student/community groups.
  • Required to assist with the shutdown of SCES facilities (predominately ADUC and Button) when events take place in campus buildings.
  • Help maintain a complete inventory and location of all campus sound, multimedia equipment, tablecloths, pipe and drape, etc., assigned to the SCES area.
  • Advises supervisor of equipment and other resource needs.
  • Available for after hour and weekend events.
  • Set up or take down of audio equipment when necessary.
  • Expected to become knowledgeable of building policies and procedures.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

Must have a Federal Award

  • The Student Manager must have a good understanding of the campus and know all workings of the university center.
  • Trained in Sound Reinforcement, video media equipment, technology, and the Rendezvous Scheduling System
  • Must be able to understand written and verbal directions left by SCES staff, they must be able to work independently with little direction.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Exercise caution and awareness of surroundings at all times during shift.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Working Conditions
  • Flexible working hours as events can change; this position requires evening and weekend work. It requires lifting up to 50 pounds including awkwardly shaped speaker enclosures and portable equipment.
  • On-going individual tasks are often interrupted with inquiries from faculty, staff, and students. Employee must be able to multi-task.
  • Maintain appropriate tools, inventories and work space to insure effective operation
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned
  • Most events will be indoors but some events may be outside in less than ideal weather.
  • Student Managers may be the only staff in the University Center on nights and weekends and should communicate with MSU Police for emergencies.
