JOB SUMMARY:
Overall management and operations of the Clinical and Virtual Laboratories. Under the leadership of the Director, Undergraduate Programs, facilitate quality learning experiences that provide:
- A risk-free environment for student learners that reinforce critical thinking and decision making and opportunities to enhance caring behaviors towards peers and patients.
- Enhance student's ability to promote patient safety and quality health care, and clinical competence through selected critical thinking scenarios.
- Improve performance, communication, and efficiency in clinical setting.
- Promote evidence-based decision making for professional practice, empowerment of the student in preparation for the clinical setting.
- Facilitate debriefing and positive feedback to enhance student learning
- Encourage students to self-analyze their performance and use critical thinking during the reflection process.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assist faculty with demonstrations of professional nursing skills and virtual laboratory experiences.
- Work with faculty to develop skilled protocols as new equipment becomes available.
- Maintain equipment in working order.
- Review equipment and media catalogs to recommend new purchases.
- Monitor use and stock of supplies; develops schedules with faculty for use of skills and virtual laboratories on quarter-to-quarter and week-to-week basis.
- Maintain records of lab sections and student activities.
- Manages all activities of the skills and virtual laboratories.
- Collaborate with the Director of Undergraduate Nursing Programs, and faculty on activities to promote student learning activities throughout the program's curricula.
- Facilitate student-learning opportunities through flexible scheduling of simulation hours.
- Initiate development of policies and procedures for utilization of simulation/lab.
- Assume responsibilities for completion of annual inventory of supplies and equipment and submit requests for supplies and/or equipment to the SON Chairperson or designee.
- Survey faculty annually to determine needs for new equipment and to evaluate operations of the skills laboratories.
- Maintain records of acquisition of new supplies, material, equipment, etc.
- Produce follow-up reports on laboratory activities including an annual report at the end of the academic year.
- Develop and implements a database for tracking student utilization of the laboratories.
- Conduct tours and simulation sessions for internal/external groups and/or individuals.

- Knowledge of equipment and the latest nursing technologies.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
- This position does not have supervisory responsibility.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Degree in nursing, MSN preferred.
- Unencumbered license to practice registered nursing in Kentucky or eligibility to apply for Kentucky licensure.
- CPR endorsement.
- Strong general nursing knowledge with a minimum of two (2) years current professional clinical nursing practice.
- Experience in organization and management.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work with faculty and students.

- Ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods.
- Occasional ability to lift, carry, and put away parcels weighing up to 35 pounds.
- Physical mobility, which includes movement from place to place on the job taking distance and speed into account.
- Physical agility, which includes ability to maneuver body while in place.
- Physical strength to handle routine office materials and tools.
- Physical dexterity of hands and fingers.
