JOB SUMMARY:

Kentucky State University seeks a motivated Assistant Professor of Sports Management to join our faculty. This tenure-track position will support both undergraduate and graduate programs, with a particular focus on teaching undergraduate courses in sports management, coaching, and physical and health education, as well as contributing to the new online Master's in Sports Analytics program and participate in accreditation process the growing Exercise Science program.

The ideal candidate must be equipped with expertise in sports management, coaching, and analytics. Additionally, the candidate will work with other departments and university faculty in curriculum development, student mentorship, and research in sports management. The individual will also aid in research related to P-12 education about relevant content within coaching.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Teach undergraduate courses in the Exercise Science Department, which includes three tracks Allied Health, Sports Management, and Teaching Certification.
  • Assist in teaching and curriculum development for the new online Master's in Sports Analytics. Engage in scholarly research and contribute to sports management, coaching, and sports publications.
  • Advise and mentor students at both undergraduate and graduate levels, including guiding research projects and internships.
  • Contribute to program development, assessment, and accreditation efforts.
  • Collaborate with faculty and industry professionals to enhance the Exercise Science curriculum.
  • Participate in service activities at the department, college, and university levels.
  • Seek external funding opportunities to support research, student initiatives, and program enhancements.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • This position does have supervisory responsibility.
  • Practicum supervisory responsibility for graduate-level counseling students.

OTHER DUTIES:

  • To be assigned by supervisor as needed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in Physical and Health Education and Coaching OR a Master's in Sports Administration or related fields. Preference will be given to the individual with a master's degree in one of those two areas mentioned first. Demonstrated experience in sports management, coaching, physical and health education, or related fields.
  • Strong potential for teaching and research in sports management.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
  • Experience with online and hybrid teaching methodologies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Sports Management, Kinesiology, or a related field. Experience teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Background in data-driven decision-making in sports or performance analysis.
  • A record of research publications in sports management, coaching, or sports analytics. Experience in curriculum development and assessment.
  • Industry experience.
  • Experience securing external research funding.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Academic setting with in-person, online, and hybrid teaching.
  • Regular computer use and occasional physical demonstrations.
  • Standard faculty hours with some evening/weekend commitments.
  • Possible travel for research, conferences, and collaboration.
  • Student advising, supervision, and participation in accreditation efforts.
