JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Technical Advisor, Clean Tech

RESPONSIBLE TO: Director, Mission Services

DIVISION/DEPART: Mission Delivery/Mission Services

SUPERVISES: Program Specialist, Clean Tech

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

INCUMBENT: Open

NOTE: This position is supported by grants. The position’s establishment and continuance may be dependent upon on-going grant funding.

SUMMARY: The Technical Advisor, Clean Tech position leads technical assistance, subject matter expertise, implementation, and quality standards support for the Goodwill Clean Tech Accelerator™ postsecondary training pathways with Goodwill member organizations throughout the U.S and Canada. The consultation scope encompasses the entire mission business model for Goodwill members, which includes funding, financial models, staffing, training curriculum, classroom and lab design, procurement, industry hiring partnerships, workforce development best practices, and strategic knowledge of the clean energy sector.

BASIC FUNCTION:

  • Lead Goodwill Industries International’s (GII’s) consultation for clean energy (examples include solar and storage, electric vehicle charging, and HVAC heat pump) workforce development training models and grant programs, mission business model implementation, capacity building efforts, program development, and technical assistance for the Goodwill network.
  • Responsible for the Goodwill Clean Tech Accelerator program and grant implementation, performance, and spending in alignment with Goodwill values and the Opportunity Accelerator™ delivery system.

SPECIFIC DUTIES1:

  1. Manage and coordinate with the team assigned GII Clean Tech projects, partnerships, and roles and responsibilities of team members.
  2. Collaborate on subgrantee selection through GII Request for Proposal competition process.
  3. Lead subgrantees’ program implementation through on-site consultation, arms-length consultation, web-based training, and other mediums as appropriate. This includes regular travel to program sites.
  4. Convene and lead regular meetings with the GII team and subgrantees to monitor and report grant programmatic and fiscal progress to facilitate timely course corrections.
  5. Develop and control spending plans and ensure funds are spent according to funder requirements.
  6. Apply detailed knowledge of all relevant laws, rules, regulations, and instructions to guide national subgrantees in grant implementation.
  7. Oversee data collection and prepare progress reports with analysis for GII senior leadership, subgrantees, and philanthropic, corporate, and government funding partners.
  8. Leverage external technical assistance from partners as needed to ensure success.
  9. Ensure the successful completion of project deliverables and alignment with quality standards for the Goodwill Clean Tech Accelerator through consultation, action plans, or program improvement plans.
  10. Lead identification and documentation of effective practices to facilitate replication, scaling, and continuous program improvement.
  11. Collaborate to develop and deliver informational, promotional, and instructional presentations and learning events for Goodwill organizations and partners to increase program adoption, impact, and peer learning.
  12. Act as primary liaison between GII and other national grantees or partners and support the development and growth of funding relationships under the direction of the Director, Mission Services.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Daily contact with departmental staff to carry out departmental activities. Work as a member of the GII team. Frequent contact with other GII staff to coordinate projects and support activities.

GII Members: Frequent contact with Goodwill member organizations engaged in Goodwill grant(s) with some contact with members to provide other support and assistance in related mission services and product delivery.

External: Contact with funding partners and industry partners.

SKILLS NEEDED2:

  1. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with ability to establish trust, build relationships, and demonstrate integrity and credibility with GII colleagues, local Goodwill members, partners and other stakeholders.
  2. Excellent management and leadership skills with the demonstrated ability to achieve goals with a wide array of team members from different departments and levels (e.g., within GII, local Goodwill organizations, partners, collaborators and others).
  3. Strong oral and written communication skills required.
  4. Excellent project management and prioritization skills.
  5. Effective consulting, group facilitation, and training/teaching skills.
  6. Grant management expertise.
  7. Deep understanding of Goodwill mission business models and how to evaluate and advise on their core components.
  8. Experience with various online project management and media software applications (e.g., Smartsheets or Power BI).
  9. Strong Microsoft Office skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams; experience creating and delivering professional virtual and in-person presentations.
  10. Ability to perform moderately difficult mathematical operations to track and report performance and grant spending.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree or associate degree with at least five years’ experience in position(s) with increasing responsibility demonstrating strong organization and communication skills in a team environment. Minimum of a bachelor’s or associate degree in business management, social or human services, or education; master’s degree preferred. Specific project management, grant management, or consultation training desired.

EXPERIENCE:

  1. Five or more years’ experience in project and grant management.
  2. Demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple demands and projects across multiple sites.
  3. Experience managing web-based platforms and creating communications documents.
  4. Experience working with data management systems and budgets.
  5. Experience creating, implementing, and scaling workforce development programs for underserved populations, including people experiencing poverty, people that are justice-impacted, and young adults disconnected from education and employment.
  6. Experience desired with workforce development programs, postsecondary training, or other relevant experience in the clean energy sector, which could include the solar and storage, EV charging, and HVAC heat pump fields.

DECISION MAKING:

Decision and recommendation making for developing systems, appropriate responses to identified needs, and consultative guidance to improve performance.

SUPERVISION:

Moderate with latitude given to the position in carrying out work assignments. Work is checked for accuracy and completeness.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Sedentary with lifting 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles or files. Walking and standing are required occasionally; long hours sitting at a desk and using a computer.

EMOTIONAL EFFORT:

Work environment usually hectic with periods of high stress. Must demonstrate a positive attitude in meeting daily challenges.
