The Senior Cloud Engineer for AI Systems will support the architecture, configuration, inter-operability, scaling and other factors to host a managed services solution in an AWS Cloud environments. Based on integration of APIs and COTS, the candidate will architect the process automation to improve processing efficiency. Core to the automation being requested will encompass all procedures, regulations and compliance for releasing Veteran records to themselves and third parties as it relates to the protection of Personal Identifiable Information (PII), Protected Health Information (PHI), and Sensitive Personal Information (SPI) collected by VA. You will be expected to comply on all facets related to these controls. You will actively monitor the PA/FOIA processing involving 1000’s of requests performed through automated methods and scale the solution accordingly. On a case-by-case instance, specific Veteran Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)/Privacy Act (PA) requests will be investigated and reported that may require your assistance.

The Senior Cloud Engineer will also be expected to interpret and decompose functional as well as technical requirements into cloud architecture using AWS GovCloud as the target. You will work closely with the Enterprise Architect to investigate, implement, calibrate and verify solutions to achieve the desired outcomes. You will monitor test and production processing cycles to evaluate performance in the course of fulfilling FOIA/PA requests, collect data metrics and recommend areas for improvement. You will support the establishment of the AWS Cloud baseline for processing continuous volumes of FOIA/PA requests.

Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the program desired outcomes in building, improving, and using integration skills to achieve desired outcomes

  • Monitor FOIA/PA processing for service interruptions and processing consistency

  • Utilize professional judgement, critical thinking skills and research to improve program processes and resolve issues affecting program performance

  • Prepare ad hoc FOIA/PA presentations related to processing volumes and data trends and present them to VA stakeholder

  • Support action item management and definition of program risks related to fulfilling FOIA/PA requests

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business related field, engineering, or a related scientific or technical discipline with at least 10+ years of experience

  • 8+ years of design/implementation/consulting experience with distributed applications or equivalent education experience

  • 5+ years of experience in infrastructure architecture, database architecture and networking

  • 5+ years of software development tools and methodologies

  • 3+ years of experience architecting/deploying/operating solutions built on AWS

  • Experience managing highly available data center operations with responsibility for infrastructure robustness, including networking, server hardware and storage

  • Understanding of Federal Government application, server, and network security requirements such as ICD 503, FISMA and FedRAMP

  • Must be able to obtain a Position of Trust and successfully pass a thorough Government background screening process requiring the completion of detailed forms and fingerprinting

Desired Skills:

  • Active VA access including assigned CAG and PIV

  • Must demonstrate the ability utilize critical thinking skills to resolve challenging issues related to fulfilling Veteran and third party requests for VA records release

  • Good team player, able to manage multiple assignments, and adapt to changing client needs

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present business leaders

The likely salary range for this position is $144,500 - $195,500. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
