Description
The Kentucky Department of Corrections (DOC), Division of Adult Institutions operates 13 correctional facilities that house Kentucky's adult inmate population. The mission of DOC is to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth and to provide a safe, secure and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out the mandates of the legislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquire skills which facilitate non-criminal behavior.
The Green River Correctional Complex is seeking candidates for a Human Resource Specialist within the institution. This position provides professional level Human Resources work in the areas of Personnel and Payroll processes.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Serve as the payroll officer which includes but not limited to time entry, time verification, payroll reports, schedule changes, call-in logs, overtime reports, answer pay/time questions.
Conduct urinalysis.
Communicate with Office of Human Resource Management.
Scan documentation.
Employee benefits forms.
Ensure American Correctional Association files are completed in a timely manner and meet standards.
Assist staff with daily HR needs to include health insurance open enrollments, assisting staff with career site and applying to jobs, etc.
Take phone calls from staff and route appropriately.
The ideal candidate for this position will have a payroll background, strong communication skills, observation skills, leadership skills, be self-motivated, well organized, and able to work under pressure.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:
Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:
One year of professional experience in personnel administration, business administration or management.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:
NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:
Administrative, business, research, and/or clerical experience will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Current or prior military experience will substitute for the required college on a year for year basis.

Working Conditions
Incumbents working in this job title perform duties in an office setting. Minimal travel may be required.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
