Overview
The Director of Inpatient Behavioral Health Services is responsible for directing the various components of the hospital’s Inpatient Behavioral Health services in an efficient manner which will meet the ARH goals and in accordance with corporate guidelines.

- Develops, implements, interprets and maintains work standards and procedures that are in compliance with unit policies, governmental regulations and various regulatory agency requirements.
- Formulates and prepares routine and special reports and serves on hospital committees as required.
- Manages the personnel function by facilitating the interviewing, selecting, evaluating, disciplining and terminating personnel or recommending such action as necessary. Assures that employees receive orientation and required in-service training.
- Determines staffing needs and patterns and recommends appropriate staffing levels and classifications consistent with unit position authorization.
- Manages Inpatient Behavioral Health in an effective manner by planning, organizing, monitoring and evaluating all activities of the department.
- Formulates and implements the objectives of the department in accordance with unit goals.
- In coordination with clinical and service-line leadership, evaluates the quality and appropriateness of services being provided in the department through an on-going program of quality assurance.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge and skills in the field of service to allow recommendation of new services, products and equipment.
- If delegated, negotiate agency contracts when they pertain to Inpatient Behavioral Health operations.
- In partnership with Behavioral Health Service Line Leadership, coordinates Inpatient Behavioral Health Services with various community stakeholders and agencies, including the local Community Mental Health Centers.
- Evaluates staff proficiency.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Education
Master Degree Preferred
Masters in Health Administration (MHA) or Masters in Business Administration (MBA) Strongly Preferred
Minimum Work Experience
Healthcare Operations/Leadership Preferred
5+ Years of Inpatient Behavioral Health Experience Strongly Preferred

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
Responsible for the direction and supervision of Inpatient Behavioral Health.
Responsible for keeping abreast of and implementing existing and changing hospital and corporate policies.
Responsible for helping develop and maintaining appropriate channels of communication between the hospital and community agencies.
Responsible for training and evaluating direct reports.Ability to communicate effectively and document information accurately.
Ability to deal efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals.
Knowledge of basic medical terminology required.
Basic computer knowledge is required.
Ability to work independently within general guidelines.
Ability to communicate in English, both orally and written.
Ability to work flexible hours.
Ability to work with adults experiencing mental health disturbances or dual diagnoses.
