Overview
Assists surgeon during operative and invasive procedures. Assures operating suite is adequately prepared for procedure. Monitors PAR level of all surgical instruments and supplies. Cleans and sterilizes all surgical instruments. Participates in departmental staff meetings and performance improvement activities.
Responsibilities
Surgical technologists work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse/
Surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical
Procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that
Equipment functions properly and that the operative procedure is conducted
Under conditions that maximize patient safety. Surgical technologists
Must possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic
Technique and combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical
Procedures and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a
Physician’s performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures.
Surgical technologists are individuals with specialized education who function
As members of the surgical team in the role of scrub person.
The surgical technologist handles the instruments, supplies
And equipment necessary during the surgical procedure.
He/she has an understanding of the procedure being
Performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon.
He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure
And is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile
Field.
Qualifications
Education
• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology Program
• Current Operating Room Technician Certification (preferred)
• Current BCLS Certification.
Language Skills:
• Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Skills:
• Basic computer knowledge.
