Amazon Robotics is seeking a safety focused Regulatory Compliance Engineer with experience fielding industrial machinery with an emphasis on industrial robot systems in national and international markets. This position will lead new and existing product development work related to regulatory compliance and safety. The ideal candidate will be a highly organized team player, have excellent communication and computer skills and experience working in a manufacturing/product development environment. Of equal importance, the ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of regulatory compliance schemes and processes and a proven track record of working with product design teams throughout the product development process to unsure compliance and safety by design. This included activities such as developing compliance strategies, design reviews, requirements development, authoring/executing test plans, VnV activities, and orchestrating 3rd party certifications. While the role will primarily focus on Machine Safety/Compliance (ideally w/ experience in industrial robot systems and mobile robots), experience in Product Safety, EMC, and Wireless compliance, for domestic and international markets, as well as Functional Safety will be highly valued.
Key job responsibilities
- Develop and implement compliance strategies
- Assist product design teams throughout the development process
- Create and manage requirements documentation
- Author and execute test plans
- Aid verification and validation activities
- Coordinate third-party certifications
- Assist with supplier qualification activities
- Evaluate compliance of OTS products

About the team
The Amazon Robotics (AR) Regulatory Compliance team ensures all AR products meet global safety and regulatory standards. As a shared service organization, we provide strategic and tactical partnership across all regions where AR products operate.
Our core focus areas include:
• Safety standards (product and machine)
• Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
• Wireless compliance
• Materials compliance
The team consists of five specialized groups:
• Product Safety
• Machine Safety
• Materials Compliance
• Compliance Laboratory (EMC & Safety)
• Design for Compliance Support
We work directly with Engineering, Product Management, Manufacturing, Deployment, Legal, Global Support Services, and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) teams to ensure alignment with global regulations and industry safety standards.
To validate compliance, we:
• Evaluate all components and materials in AR designs
• Implement customized processes and procedures
• Partner with third-party agencies and test laboratories
• Lead internal tests and evaluation utilizing internal labs
Our primary goal is to create compliant and safe products that minimize risks to human health and the environment.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 2+ years compliance experience in development of industrial robot systems (or equivalent)
- BS / MS Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or similar field.
- Willingness to travel
- Ability to multitask in a high energy environment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Certified Machine Safety Expert (CMSE) or equivalent
- Experience in risk management and performing task based risk assessments
- Knowledge of Standards, Regulations, and EU directives related to machinery safety, functional safety, product safety, and risk assessments (e.g., ISO 10218-2, UL 1740, UL 508, IEC 61508, IEC 62061, ISO 13849-1, NFPA 79, IEC 60204-1 and ISO 12100)
- Experience evaluating products employing Electro Sensitive Protective Equipment (ESPE), Safety Related Sensors (SRS), and Safety Related Sensor Systems (SRSS) (e.g. IEC 61496 series)
- Experience interacting with customers, regulatory agencies, test labs, etc.
- Experience in partnering with contract manufacturer with NRTL factory inspections
- Experience in engineering change control processes (Agile)
- Experience in evaluating compliance of 3rd party products
- Knowledge of EMC regulations pertaining to FCC, Industry Canada, EN 61000-6-x, etc.
- Experience in documenting product requirements extracted from industry Safety, EMC and Wireless standards
- Experience in partnering with Safety, EMC and Wireless certification programs by means of identifying equipment needs, documentation needs, support equipment needs, and staging equipment to be tested, debug capabilities, etc.
- Experience with standards development (e.g. ISO, IEC, A3, ANSI, UL, etc.)
